Swissolar, as a professional association, represents the interests of its more than 500 members with around 7,000 workplaces in the Swiss solar power business over and against the general public, politics and regulatory bodies. Swissolar is committed to supporting the rapid growth of the use of solar energy in Switzerland. Solar energy is used in the generation of electric power, in the heating of buildings as well as for the preparation of domestic hot water. The association was already founded in 1978. Swissolar was among the first solar organisations worldwide.

In Switzerland, the sun supplies 220 times more energy every year than is needed. Swissolar campaigns for a turnaround in energy policy and for an energy supply that no longer needs fossil or nuclear energy to be used. As an ambassador of the trade, Swissolar sets ambitious but realistic goals for the propagation of solar energy use in Switzerland: 20% solar power (12 m² of solar modules per inhabitant) and 20% solar heat in private households (2 m² of collectors per inhabitant) by 2035.
