GLASS SANDS

We provide a wide range of high purity, low iron, silica sands for the glass industry. Products that require silica sands include: glass containers, flat glass, fiber glass insulation, textile fiber glass and a variety of other specialty glass products. To effectively serve the glass industry we must closely monitor screen sizing for consistent particle size and distribution. By meeting these strict requirements for quality and consistency, U. S. Silica enables its customers to realize maximum production efficiencies and cost savings.

APLITE

Aplite is added to container glass and insulation fiber glass batches for alumina. Alumina (Al2O3) is a minor but important oxide ingredient in glass compositions. Alumina inhibits devitrification and affects the viscosity during glass forming and improves the chemical durability and thermal shock resistance of the finished glass. Aplite´s lower melting point enables the material to disperse easier at the furnace temperatures used in glass making. In addition, aplite has less tendency to form defects in the glass.
