EGLASSTREK SYSTEMS – 25 YEARS AND BEYOND

EGLASSTREK was founded in Hochheim, Germany in 1980 as a private limited company. The company has from the very beginning been focused on patent awarding in the field of heating E-glass for fibre glass and platinum pipe heating. Numerous patents from this time are proof of the company’s initial involvement in the area of electrical heating for Eglass in melters and feeders. The next challenge was not only the introduction, but also the improvement of platinum feeders for glass production.

In 1986, the company moved to Oestrich–Winkel, Germany to larger office space as business developed well. In the following, various devices and processes to heat directly the platinum pipes for processing of glass were developed and registered as patents. Until 2006, EGLASSTREK had a considerable share of the platinum feeder installation market worldwide for LCD / TFT substrate glass.

A single plant normally consists of a refining zone, stirrer units and a cooling zone placed before the so–called run-out. For sheet glass it is a nozzle, spout or muffle. From 1985 to 2006 a total of 8 plants for the production of substrate glass were successfully designed, installed and production started by EGLASSTREK for all renowned LCD / TFT glass producers worldwide. Four plants used the slot down draw method, three the LCD float method and one the overflow fusion method.

In addition to the large demand for LCD / TFT glass platinum feeders, over 50 directly heated platinum pipe units have been designed, installed and production started worldwide. These units have been built using a modular technique (tailor-made) which is closed on all sides and can be directly heated by electrical current passing through the precious metal. This functions on the basis that the heating energy is produced directly by current flow in the precious metal, whereby the heating power is calculated by the resistance R of the metal pipe through which current flows and the square of the current flowing through it (H=I²R).

The EGLASSTREK system incorporates: platinum electrodes, refiners, low pressure refiners, double or multiple stirrer units, plunger units, stirrers, plungers, needles, orifices, floor overflow and lateral drains as well as platinum wire heating.

With a view to the 21st century:

EGLASSTREK has registered patent applications for refining, stirring and forming glass in the last few years. EGLASSTREK continually aims to guarantee improvement of glass production based on its systems. Young personnel are supervised and coached by qualified experts in the field.
