Vivix advances smart factory transformation with Siemens Mendix platform

Brazilian flat glass manufacturer Vivix Vidros Planos is accelerating its digital transformation by replacing manual workflows, spreadsheets and paper based processes with a connected industrial application landscape built around Siemens’ Mendix low code platform.

According to a Siemens Digital Industries Software case study, Vivix produces float, laminated and mirror glass primarily for Brazil and Latin America, with a daily production capacity of 900 tons. The company launched a three year digital transformation road map in 2021, aiming to reduce operational costs, increase productivity and strengthen its ability to respond to global market changes through better data use.

Before the transformation, many industrial processes at Vivix relied on manual data consolidation, Excel files and paper records. Siemens reports that Vivix selected Mendix after evaluating 18 solutions, citing the platform’s scalability, usability, edge and mobile capabilities, and fit with the company’s industrial ecosystem.

Vivix has since digitalised several areas of glass production, including product traceability, production management, statistical process control, shift checklists and CAPEX management. The Mendix environment is used alongside other Siemens Xcelerator technologies, including Opcenter APS, Industrial Edge, PCS7, SIMATIC WinCC Unified and SIMATIC WinCC Professional.

The digital applications support real time data use, improve quality control and strengthen traceability across production processes. Siemens states that Vivix has cut manual work by hours per shift and reduced response time to customer complaints by 80 percent through AI integration.

Vivix is also expanding its smart factory approach with AI enabled applications. AWS reports that the company built a “Virtual Engineer” using Mendix and Amazon Bedrock, embedded into its Glass DNA application. The tool supports defect assessment, historical data analysis and document retrieval by combining production, quality and operational data.

The project highlights how digital platforms, real time industrial data and AI based decision support are becoming increasingly relevant for glass manufacturers seeking higher efficiency, stronger quality control and faster operational responsiveness.
