Pyrex is strengthening its decarbonisation strategy at its industrial site in Châteauroux, France, with major investments aimed at increasing the share of electricity in its energy consumption.

During a recent visit to the Pyrex factory in Châteauroux, Sylvain Waserman, President of ADEME, highlighted the importance of industrial electrification as a way to reduce dependence on geopolitical energy instability and support a more sovereign and competitive French industry.

The Pyrex site is highly energy intensive and operates glass furnaces of more than 100 tonnes. In recent years, the company has invested several million euros to increase the use of electricity in its production processes. The final objective is to operate its glass furnace with an energy mix of 80 percent electricity and 20 percent hydrogen.

The French state, through ADEME, is supporting the company with financial assistance as well as technical expertise. This support focuses on improving energy efficiency, electrifying industrial processes and modernising infrastructure in order to strengthen the long term competitiveness and sovereignty of the site.

According to Sylvain Waserman, Pyrex has understood that decarbonisation is not a constraint, but a key route to securing the future of industrial production in France. Thanks to its forward looking investments, the Châteauroux plant is now positioned as a global leader in glass furnace electrification technology.

The project underlines the growing importance of electrification and alternative energy sources in the glass industry, as manufacturers seek to reduce emissions, improve energy resilience and maintain competitive production in Europe.
