Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported in its Jan 21 issue that the Guardian Industries facility in Jefferson Hills is to pay a fine of 25,000 USD. This is made in settlement of charges for emission of excessive amounts of smog-causing pollutants. The company is forced to install pollution control equipment by the end of this year. Until now the company has not installed any air pollution control equipment to reduce emissions of NO and other volatile organic compounds that are basis for ground-level ozone and could cause smog.
The Health Department further imposed a daily penalty of 4,800 USD for every day that this pollution control installation is not into operation after 1.Jan.2016
