Orora halts glass production at Saverglass Middle East facility Orora has halted glass production at its Saverglass facility in Ras al Khaimah (RAK), United Arab Emirates. The company blamed the conflict in the MiddleEast, with shipping routes closed and overland routes inaccessible. Earning had been hit by a third, it said. As a result the company has decided to transition the RAK facility to a closed‑loop ‘hot’ operation, whereby the furnace will be kept warm with no bottle production taking place. Bottle production will now shift to Mexico, with moulds to be transported to the its Acatlán facility to facilitate production later this year. The RAK furnace has four production lines and represents approximately 15% of SAVERGLASS' production capacity, with most of the recent production geared toward global premium and ultra-premium wines for the North American market. The RAK glass production facility was not damaged during the conflict and all team members in the region are accounted for and safe. Orora said a number of employees have been supported to return to their homes outside the region while the conflict endures. The company had forecast Saverglass earnings of € 79.2 million for financial year 26 but due to the impact of the conflict with Iran, this has been revised to approximately € 63 m to € 68 m. The decision to shutter RAK facility will cost about € 9 m - € 11 m with costs related to energy, staffing and the continuation of fixed costs in the absence of production.
