Ciner Glass Joins Global Glass Companies to Announce Climate Programme

, CINER GLASS

At Ciner Glass, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to announce that we have joined forces with some of the world’s largest glass producers, packaging firms, mining organisations, and automotive brands to launch Responsible Glass, a global certification programme designed to transform the glass industry.

Responsible Glass is an international, multi-stakeholder, not-for-profit initiative committed to setting new standards for the responsible, low-carbon production of glass. This programme will help drive down carbon emissions, increase supply chain transparency, and accelerate the shift toward more sustainable practices across the entire glass value chain.

Glass is essential to modern life—from buildings and solar panels to vehicles and packaging—but its production is energy-intensive, contributing approximately 95 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions globally each year. Unlike other sectors such as steel, the glass industry has lacked a unified sustainability framework until now.

What Responsible Glass Will Deliver:

  • Transparent, auditable standards for low-carbon glass production
  • Improvements in emissions reduction, circularity, worker safety, and sourcing practice
  • A trusted certification mark for responsibly sourced and manufactured glass

A Global Collaboration

Responsible Glass brings together a diverse group of industry leaders committed to driving change. Founding members include ARUP,  Belron, the Climate Group, the mining group IRMA, NSG Group, one of the world’s largest glass manufacturers, Stara Glass and our subsidiary partner WE Soda, the world’s largest natural soda ash provider—a key ingredient in glass production. Supporters include ARM, Cary Group, Jaguar Land Rover, and ERM CVS, a global leader in sustainability assurance.

As a founding member, Ciner Glass is committed to playing a leading role in this transformation. Our operations in Turkey, the UK, and Belgium already focus on delivering sustainable glass packaging to the food and beverage industry, and this initiative strengthens our ability to drive meaningful change across the sector.
