Beta Glass Advances Sustainable Production with Hybrid Furnace Rebuild in Nigeria

, Beta Glass

Beta Glass has reached an important milestone with the successful rebuild of its hybrid furnace at the Delta Plant in Ughelli, completed in October 2025. Combining electric power and natural gas, the furnace upgrade marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to build a more sustainable and competitive glass manufacturing business in Nigeria and across Central and West Africa.

The achievement goes beyond technical modernization. It underlines Beta Glass’s commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of its operations while strengthening production performance. With the DF1 furnace now operating at 250 tons per day, the company is already recording measurable benefits.

Among the most notable results are a reduction in energy consumption and emissions of nearly 8 percent, annual production capacity of around 275 million bottles in sizes ranging from 15 milliliters to 1 liter, and savings of approximately 1,577 metric tons of CO₂ emissions.

A key advantage of the hybrid furnace technology is the flexibility it provides in manufacturing lighter and more sustainable glass products without sacrificing quality or performance. For Beta Glass, innovation is being applied where it matters most, directly within production processes, to deliver tangible environmental improvements.

Looking ahead, the company remains focused on lightweight and right weight bottle design in order to better support its brewery partners and further strengthen its role as a preferred industry partner. This direction is closely aligned with Beta Glass’s SBTi and Net Zero commitments, reinforcing its determination to achieve measurable and lasting impact.
