The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation, AIGMF, organised a roundtable on solar and pattern glass on July 27, 2026, at the Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, CGCRI, in Kolkata, India.
The event was organised in cooperation with the Bureau of Indian Standards, the Glazing Society of India and the Federation of Safety Glass. Representatives from glass manufacturers, processors, suppliers, government institutions, industry associations and research organisations participated in the discussions.
A key focus of the roundtable was the further development of India's solar glass industry. Shreevar Kheruka, Senior Vice President of AIGMF and Managing Director and CEO of Borosil Ltd., presented an overview of solar glass manufacturing and the future development of the sector.
The event also addressed standards for specialised glass products. Mohit Garg from the Bureau of Indian Standards presented current Indian standards for textured and extra clear textured glass under IS 5437:2024 as well as safety glass for solar applications under IS 2553 Part 3:2026.
Further presentations focused on strengthening solar glass and developing more resistant glass solutions. Varun Gupta of Triveni Renewables Ltd. discussed approaches towards stronger solar glass, while Purvish Shah of Gopal Glass Works and Gobind Glass and Industries presented applications for pattern glass, including toughening and sustainable partition solutions.
Participants also discussed the need for additional research, testing infrastructure and closer cooperation between glass manufacturers and research institutions. Industry representatives requested further support from CGCRI in the areas of research and development and product testing.
The discussions form part of a wider AIGMF initiative covering different glass segments ahead of the 16th AIGMF International Conference, which is planned to take place alongside glasspex and glasspro in 2027. The conference will focus on the development of stronger and more resistant glass solutions for applications including flat glass, solar glass, container glass and speciality glass.
