MSK at glasstec 2026 - Cold End Specialist: MSK celebrates its 50th anniversary

The MSK Covertech Group is one of the leading suppliers of Cold End systems for the glass industry. The MSK portfolio begins directly after the lehr. From the cross conveyor onward, MSK engineers every component, manufactures it at its own production facilities, and develops all machine software in-house. Future-proof investment

"Thanks to our modular system, we are able to configure every project according to our customers' individual requirements. As a result, our solutions are tailored to each application while still being based on proven standards. This applies to performance requirements, glass container shapes, and the available installation space at the customer's site. In addition, our experienced engineering team develops customized special solutions to meet specific customer requirements. This is possible because we manufacture and test all machines and conveyors in-house," explains Uwe Jonkmanns, Managing Director Sales & Marketing International at MSK. MSK also offers flexible solutions for lines used to decorate glass containers. At MSK, palletizing, packaging, and transport systems are all digitally networked. "Interfaces and transfer processes between different systems within the overall production process are always a critical success factor," says Uwe Jonkmanns. "Our EMSY software provides a decisive advantage in this respect. On the one hand, it visualizes every system in real time, making operation simple and intuitive. On the other hand, the digital networking of all system components enables a fully automated material flow with parameter exchange, seamless interfaces, and the continuous transfer of all relevant data throughout the entire logistics process."

A reliable partner

The new glass container plant of Şişecam in Hungary is an example of a greenfield project. For the complete Cold End equipment of its new facility in Kaposvár, Şişecam selected MSK as its system partner.

Another successful project completed in 2025 was the installation of the entire Cold End at Park Cam Sanayi Ticaret A.Ş. For the commissioning of Furnace 40 in Bozüyük, Bilecik, MSK developed a high-performance Cold End concept that was seamlessly integrated into the existing production system, which includes a total of three furnaces.

Working with MSK is characterized by reliability and a structured approach. Even many years after commissioning, customers can rely on the availability of spare parts and service support thanks to MSK's high level of in-house manufacturing.

50 years of innovation for the glass industry

Founded in 1975 by Reiner Hannen, the MSK Covertech Group looks back on more than 50 years of success. The family-owned company, with around 600 employees, has been led by Managing Partners Christina and Linda Hannen since 2013. As part of the Group's continued growth, Uwe Jonkmanns was appointed Managing Director Sales & Marketing International in 2024.

With more than 7,000 systems installed worldwide, MSK has established itself as a technology leader in the international Cold End market through continuous innovation and uncompromising quality. Focus on Sustainability

Since the company was founded, MSK has placed a strong focus on resource-efficient development — both in its products and throughout the company. Guided by the MSK philosophy, "savings through technology," MSK continuously develops energy-efficient and resource-saving machinery and automation solutions, creating added value for customers in achieving both their economic and sustainability objectives.

In the field of packaging technology, the MSK shrink frame technology, introduced to the market as early as 1981 and combined with the patented bottom shrink process, has laid the foundation for millions of tons of CO₂ savings. The reduction in film thickness from 110 µm in the past to typically 80 µm today has been achieved while simultaneously increasing the stackability of glass container layers to pallet heights of up to 2.40 m and more. Reduced film consumption and improved truck capacity utilization lower the carbon footprint while cutting transportation costs by half. The film is 100% recyclable, supporting the circularity of the packaging material. In addition, the use of films containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) content is both possible and well established on MSK systems.

Machine features such as maintenance-free timing belt technology or the use of counterweights to reduce motor power requirements through load balancing help lower energy consumption and extend the service life of the systems. Water-based powder coatings and the avoidance of hydraulic systems and lubricants help protect the environment.

Since MSK supplies the complete Cold End, all processes can be evaluated holistically and designed according to individual customer requirements. The EMSY software family provides comprehensive analysis capabilities and supports continuous process optimization. A key role in this context is played by EMSY analytics, a software solution specifically developed for the glass industry. It enables centralized analysis of the entire Cold End based on real-time data. EMSY analytics provides transparency regarding the overall efficiency of a Cold End and identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and optimized resource utilization.
