Products or Machinery

SORG supplies regenerative and recuperative furnaces, all-electric and oxy-fuel melters, together with distributors and forehearths heated by gas or electricity, or a combination of these. Our installations are used to melt all glasses that are produced in commercial qualities, including various soda-lime compositions, fluoride opal, lead and lead-free crystal, neutral and hard borosilicate, C and E glass for insulating and textile fibres, and even basalt for mineral insulating fibres.

The smallest SORG furnace currently operating melts just 2,5 tons per 24 hours (fluoride opal glass), whilst the largest produces more than 450 tons of containers per day (soda-line green glass).

Our furnace and forehearth equipment are uniquely suitable for long-term continuous operation in the difficult environment typically found in glass factories. The design of most equipment is based on our own extensive experience and most items are specially produced for our customers.

SORG service engineers always provide supervision of the installation and commissioning work, and on-site training. In recent years there has been a significant increase in the requirement for additional services during the complete lifetime of an installation, such as condition and operation audits, maintenance and repair, and training. We now offer formal service contracts as an option, which formalise the service arrangements for a particular installation over a specified time period such as 2 years.

Founded more than 135 years ago, SORG can rightly claim to be one of the world’s leading independent furnace engineering companies.

At any one time more than 250 SORG® designed glass melting furnaces are in operation, and our customers produce glass in more than 65 countries throughout the world. In 2007 we supplied our 1000th glass conditioning unit.

SORG products include concept development, design and engineering of furnaces and forehearths. the provision of specially designed equipment and lifetime site services.

Mathematical modelling forms and important part of the design process and we run between 120 and 150 complete models each year. Our design office has a permanent staff of 37, and these have a total of more than 600 years of furnace design experience. That is REAL experience !

Most of our equipment is specifically designed for the difficult operating conditions typically found in glass factories and is based on our own long-term experience.

One of the main attributes of our service personnel is their extensive experience in working in various parts of the world, and they would not have achieved the current success without an understanding of the mentality and traditions of people in different parts of the world.
