Function

The breaking strength of glass, especially of curved bodies such as containers and other hollow glassware, is determined very much by residual stresses, which depend essentially on the forming process, annealing and the wall thickness distribution.
Constant testing of the residual stresses after the annealing process is therefore an important part of quality control in production. The StrainMatic® XP working according to the Sénarmont principle facilitates the automatic and objective measurement of the birefringence and counters the disadvantages of the previously used manual and therefore subjective methods.
