Vitro and Tec de Monterrey conduct a special diploma courseFor the purpose of strengthening the knowledge of all those who are involved in the sales, distribution, design solutions and installation of glass for construction, Vitro and the Tec de Monterrey conducted a course, with diploma, titled “Light, heat, sound, wind pressure, thickness and flat glass”. The course was held between June 16 and 21 in Vitro’s installations of The Center for Human Development (CDH) as well as in the installations and labs of Campus Monterrey, part of the Tec de Monterrey. “The principal theme of the course was to demonstrate the performance of glass used in a facade or a window, subjected to extreme wind forces, in order to identify the best dimension adapted for light and solar heat reductions”, points out Carlos O´Valle, Technical Adviser to the Marketing Manager for Vitro Flat Glass. He adds that with this information it is possible to determine the thermal performance and select the particular glass solution with the greatest efficiency to generate energy savings. “Also, he explains, it’s possible to select the best window solution to dampen exterior noise, acting as a noise barrier, also enhancing comfort in the workplace and contributing to internal quietness, accomplished through simulation tests on sound transmission”. Architectural glass is a product whose use in building designs is on the increase and its application has spread to facades, handrails, storm doors, internal dividing elements and even furniture. “This fact is what drove us to join forces with the Tec de Monterrey; the attendees now have the necessary skills to offer to the end user the type of glass which best fits each one’s needs”, he points out. The course, with diploma, was comprised of 54 hours of instruction and laboratory experiments and was divided into six sessions. It was taught by teachers and professors from the Tec de Monterrey in collaboration with personal from Vitro’s Flat Glass Business Unit. 13.09.2008, Vitro, S.A.B. de C.V.
