Based on a presentation made to the "Furnace Solutions" meeting at Stoke in the UK earlier this year, this article has been published in the September/October issue of GLASS WORLDWIDE.

Energy consumption and environmental emissions are two of the most important factors for glass manufacturers, and it appears likely that these issues will be the driving force behind the development of melting technology in the foreseeable future. The article discusses the current situation and suggest the direction that development will take.
