EGLASSTREK SYSTEMS: PLATINUM FURNACE LATERAL DRAIN

LCD melters are fitted with overflow drains. The next step in the development of the overflow drain units are a drainage system made of precious metal pipes (Platinum Group metals). The precious metal overflow lateral drain systems are installed in the melter at the throat of the furnace and are opened periodically so as to skim off at least some of the upper layer (scum) of the glass melt there and hence to free it of impurities. 

The drain units are directly heated by electric current that is forced through the pipe. The necessary contact points are welded at opposite ends and held together by means of screw joints. These terminals are connected to bus bars. The power source in the form of a high current transformer is connected between the current flanges. The ceramic supporting structure for the electrically heated overflow drain is attached tightly to the surface of the precious metal pipe to be heated.
