A restructuring of AGC Flat Glass North America is resulting in 250 layoffs at a company plant in East Tennessee and the loss of 63 administrative jobs in Kingsport.Advertisement

The Alpharetta, Ga.-based subsidiary of Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. is reducing its North American work force by about 40 percent.No cuts are planned at the company´s Blue Ridge Plant in Kingsport.AGC President and CEO Brad Kitterman told workers Wednesday morning of the coming cuts.

The manufacturer will close one production line at its Greenland plant in Hawkins County by the end of the week.The jobs will end within four months.AGC employs about 1,180 people at its operations in Kingsport, Hawkins County and nearby Abingdon, Va. That number will be cut to about 830.
