Glass substrate processor G-Tech gears up for TFT LCD segment

Taiwan-based glass substrate processor G-Tech Optoelectronics is gearing up development for the TFT LCD segment, with a new plant, Fab 3, expected to start volume production in the second half of 2008, according to company sources.

Fab 3, which is being constructed in Taiwan, will focus on the thinning of TFT LCD glass substrates, the sources said. G-Tech´s Fab 2 in Taiwan began operations in December 2007 to also focus on the glass thinning operations to meet the growing needs for slimmer portable electronic devices, the sources added.

The company, of which Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) owns a major stake, also expects its plant in Dongguan, China to start operations in April, with the plant to mainly producing protection shields, the sources said.
