Emhart Glass “Quality First” Program

The Six Sigma Board (SSB) decided to change the program, but what did that really mean? Maybe it was our new president that made me realize that the real objective was what our old president had been saying all along (i.e. Customer First – Quality First). Wasn’t this effort all about improving quality and making it a top priority in our quest to satisfy and delight our customers? Sure it was - and is. As such, the SSB decided to realign improvement efforts with our true objectives and from now forward, Six Sigma will have a specific role under the Emhart Glass “Quality First” Program. To further reflect this change, the Six Sigma Board was also renamed the Quality Advisory Board.

So what does it matter if the names change? Well, it’s really more than that. The “Quality First” program is intended to unify the elements of our Quality System with our Quality Improvement Program. The Quality Improvement Program is more about realizing quality and performance improvement and less about the tools we use to obtain it. Of course, we will still use Six Sigma methods and tools, but our aim is to attain our quality objectives and provide the highest quality product and services to our customers. We will have a “Bias for Action” and try to be quicker and more efficient in taking the Cost of Poor Quality out of Emhart Glass.
