EGLASSTREK – PEAK COMPENSATORS FOR PLATINUM GRAIN STABILISED PIPES
|
Grain stabilised platinum alloys are the ideal material for transporting LCD substrate glass at high temperatures. The precious metal is fixed by means of oxide dispersions strengthened particles. This enables extremely stable elongated grain boundaries to be formed and excessive grain growth as is known in the case of platinum and its alloys is hindered. Furthermore, the high temperature rupture stress of grain stabilised platinum alloys should be emphasized. This is considerably greater than that of conventional Pt/Rh 20 or Pt/Ir 10 alloys. The greatly improved cohesiveness of this ideal material at high temperatures however has its disadvantages in industrial use specially noticeable in linear extension.

The aforementioned disadvantage in linear extension is eliminated in conventional alloys using state of the art elongated concave / convex bows in the platinum pipes. However, in the case of grain hardened platinum alloys this compensation for thermal expansion is not sufficient in some cases. Thus Eglasstrek uses a radial running PEAK shaped construction for pipes with a diameter of between 20 and 1.000 mm. Such PEAK shaped compensators facilitate a greater compensation for linear expansion by using only one PEAK unit per pipe length. Precious metal pipes of Pt/Rh 10, Pt/Rh 20, Pt/Ir 10 or grain stabilised platinum group metals (PGM) have a wall thickness (t) of 10 mm or less. The height (H) of the compensators varies between 1 and 50 mm, whereby the angle of the concave /convex lateral surface is between 1 and 88 degrees. The calculated value obtained by dividing the height by the wall thickness (t) varies between 0,01 and 500. Further, the height is predetermined by (H) 0,1% to 50% of the maximum diameter of the circular / elliptical inlet or outlet.

Such constructions to compensate for linear extension are also used in the field of stirrers, plungers or needles, where beyond the area of glassmelt high temperature resistant materials are used.
