EGLASSTREK PLATINUM WIRE HEATING

In some special cases it is necessary to operate with direct platinum wire heating. The term "direct heating" should be understood such that energy is generated directly in the platinum wire by current flow, with the heating power resulting from the resistance R of the wire through which current flows and the square of the current flowing through.

The most common platinum wire heating will be used e. g. in Stirrer- Plunger shaft, heating of Overflow Fusion or Danner/Vello Muffle, Overflow Trough areas, Refiner Vents, Crucible Cylinder, areas in large longish Spouts for the LCD FLOAT® Process, Tweelblock, Bubblers, or other special requirements, where it is difficult, if not completely impossible, to mount a power terminal directly to the platinum pipe equipment.

Refractory of all geometric forms is the basic material for the electrical wire heating construction, whereby the platinum wire can be installed into the holes and grooves. The platinum wire should be wound in the bottom of the slots and pulled tightly around the end of the center between the slots and then back to the other end, and so forth until all the slots are full. Care should be taken not to damage the wire while pulling the wire at the end of the slots.

Following criteria determine the design of the platinum wire heater: Diameter and lengths of the wire, required operation temperature and loaded current which guaranty the wire a long life time.
