EGLASSTREK BOOSTING FOR TFT/LCD GLASS WITH PGM

While the molybdenum or tin electrodes perform well in many glass formulations, they can have problems in some glasses. PGM (Platinum Group Metals) electrodes offer an alternative. The latest research has shown that low traces of molybdenum on non alkali glass for TFT/LCD and plasma display are unacceptable. Tin electrodes can react with the noble metal finer and stirrer equipment and create platinum inclusion < 10 µ.

The effective application of PGM electrodes requires extensive know-how. During the electrical melting of TFT/LCD glass colloidal atomization of PGM electrodes occurs in the glass melt at a 50/60 Hz junction, so that PGM electrodes necessitate the use of higher frequency in order to prevent the PGM from atomizing.

The level of glass contamination due to dissolving PGM electrodes does not depend solely, on the size of the electrode surface therefore, but also on the current density and its frequency. The current density is calculated from the ratio between the flowing current and the PGM electrode surface in the glass bath. The cut-off frequency at which the electrolytical atomization is practically zero is dependent on the applied current density. If the values of current density and frequency are put into relationship, the resulting quotient is the load density. Therefore the load density of the PGM electrodes is of critical importance.
