Discharging of the first slab from this new 100 % Digit@l furnace® on 11 July 2006 was the result of over three years of individual and collective efforts of several companies including STEIN HEURTEY as the main supplier.

The design work for this 415 t/hr furnace started after contract signing in August 2004.

Though the civil work was completed by the customer 6 months behind schedule which delayed start of the furnace construction by at least 3 months, the production could begin on schedule thanks to the drastic programme implemented to make up for lost time.

BLUESCOPE STEEL´s satisfaction on this performance has been clearly expressed.

After nearly 4 months of production the record values achieved have confirmed the first objective of Bluescope Steel which was to increase the yearly production by 400,000 tonnes.

It has also been a success in terms of quality since the slabs rolled since 11 July 2006 have met the requirements for their marketing.
