DELO at Glasstech Asia

DELO Industrial Adhesives presents new products as an expert in the glass bonding sector at Glasstech Asia in Bangkok, Thailand, from 15th until 17th November 2007. The company focuses on the presentation of the new light-curing transparent acrylates, applied in the bonding of hinges for shower cabins as well as for glass partition wall systems in modern offices.

The hinges of new generations of glass shower cabins are bonded to the glass plate in order to prevent boreholes

More and more components in glass constructions are bonded instead of screwed. This offers clear added value: Boreholes and screws can be saved and the glass is neither weakened nor damaged. The UV-/light-curing adhesives from the product group DELO-PHOTOBOND offer numerous advantages in bonding hinges in shower cabins: The adhesives achieve high strength and a very good long-term resistance. Because of the transparency they are also suitable for optically challenging bondings, as they are and remain clear even after curing (see illustration 1).

The especially developed DELO-PHOTOBOND products are increasingly used even for glass partition wall systems. Adhesives, such as silicones, polyurethanes and transparent adhesive tapes, used hitherto, offer several disadvantages. Silicones have very long curing times. Therefore, long waiting periods must be accepted after joining. Additionally, silicones have to be adjusted in color to the respective substrate in order to achieve invisibility. Polyurethanes are not UV stable. This means that the bonded connection must be protected against light with a screen printing layer. Using adhesive tapes, air bubbles are regularly encased tarnishing the general impression of optically transparent bondings. The new, especially developed DELO-PHOTOBOND products offer therefore a lot of new possibilities for designers regarding extensive structural glass-metal-bondings. The adhesive is transparent and achieves absolute invisibility. Moreover, it is easy to process, shows high strengths with high tension equalization at the same time and is extremely temperature-resistant. The light-curing process allows easy processing and therefore high quantities in short cycle times. As a system supplier, DELO has the respective know-how for the perfect production process in the glass bonding sector.

DELO does not only produce tailor-made adhesives, but also dispensing and curing equipment.
The newly developed, highly intensive LED spot light source DELOLUX 80 is used for the fast curing of light- and UV-curing adhesives, i.e. for acrylates. The advantage is that the service life of the DELOLUX 80 is 20 times higher compared to conventional discharge lamps and the light power is immediately available. Moreover, the integration into the production process is considerably easier as the outside edge of the LED head is only slightly larger than the lamp head itself. Therefore, the space required within the production plant is extremely low.
