PURPOSE OF POSITION
To control glass composition within specifications, to reduce glass composition variability, and improve glass melting and forming process. Act as the Plant interface between Pressware and Analytical Services. Assure Pressware Departments are aware of the composition status. Ensure adequate supplies of cullet and raw materials to allow continuous production operations. To provide effective engineering support to the Melting Area that improves process yields, reduces non-conformities and reduces product cost. This will be accomplished through data analysis, experimental plans, PDCs to SOS, Work Instructions process capability studies and variability reduction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain glass on composition through documented procedures
Develop experimental plans to evaluate methods to improve composition stability
Manage cullet and its conservation throughout the Plant
Support the Melting Production Department through weekly on-call and Weekend Team coverage
Adheres to all Plant procedures and ISO 9002 requirements including the Quality Plan
Plant interface with Analytical Services
Uses KT as a problem solving/identification tool
Control glass color transitions (650 CUP <> 636 PP)
Control analytical and cullet related spending
Monitor daily activities to meet batching requirements
Develop work instructions and RAS sheets as required for glass chemistry related tasks
Manage cullet inventories
Manage cullet segregation and take action to avoid and prevent contamination
Conduct weekly cullet audit
Manage Raw Materials inventories
Supply Melting Department with data and theoretical support
Develop experiment plans and process improvements
Support Melting Department through weekly on call and weekend team coverage
Adhere to all plant procedures and ISO 9002 requirements
Assure process runs to documented procedures
Support Quality Plan
Tour Melting, Mixing and Cave daily, including reading logbooks. Bring issues up at Morning meeting
Reduce process variability
Use Blackbelt skills to drive Department to statistical Process Control
Maintain metal on magnet data
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Minimum Associates Degree
Preferred (4) Yr Degree in Chemical, Industrial or any related Engineering field
